From Traditional Downspouts to Copper Rain Chain

An ordinary object can be used as a piece of art. This is true in case of rain chain that has transformed the rain gutters into a water sculpture. This transformation is highly useful as well beautiful for many. The traditional gutter downspouts which were used for controlling the flow of water have been replaced by these rain chains. Downspouts are a square tube through which water flows from roof to ground. These tubes are now being replaced with rain chains placed vertically, having several cups hanging along the chain. The water flow is controlled with these cups that are placed in the garden, giving it an appearance of a waterfall.

Rain chains made of copper add additional beauty to the house. A calm, peaceful ambience is created with these like the Feng Shui. Water flowing through the metal cups is a delightful sight along with producing a lovely, harmonious sound. The sound varies depending upon the style of cups used, their size and designs. Some of the common shapes of these metal cups include floral, fish and others, which are continuing since the traditional era when the royal family of Japan used these for hundreds of years.

Copper rain chains are ideal accessory that enhances and beautifies one’s surroundings. Earlier used in Buddhist temples in Japan, these are now prominent decorative item used in homes. These were also used as an important medium to collect water. Apart from being a piece of decoration, copper rain chains are use for collecting water in the large barrels placed at their end which can be later used for several purposes.
